Parents and Grandparents Program pause: how the Super Visa differs

Current PGP intake status and the distinct purpose and requirements of the Super Visa.

A multigenerational family spending time together at home

The Parents and Grandparents Program is not accepting new sponsorship interest forms, while the Super Visa remains a temporary-residence option with separate requirements.

A parent who wants to visit for an extended period may consider the Super Visa rules. That application does not place the parent in a permanent-residence sponsorship queue.

What to do now

  • Confirm whether you have a valid invitation before preparing a PGP sponsorship application.
  • For a Super Visa, review the current host-income calculation, insurance and medical-exam rules.
  • Choose a pathway based on the family's actual goal: temporary visits or permanent residence.

Where this guide stops

A Super Visa does not provide permanent residence or guarantee entry, and current income and document rules still apply.
