Express Entry in 2026: categories, CRS and what the score does not tell you

How category-based rounds relate to Express Entry eligibility, category criteria and CRS ranking.

Skilled professionals collaborating in a modern technical workspace

A CRS score ranks a profile in the pool; it does not by itself establish program eligibility or predict an invitation.

Two candidates can have the same CRS score while only one meets the instructions for an occupation-based round. The category criteria are checked separately from the score.

What to do now

  • Confirm eligibility for the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program or Federal Skilled Trades Program.
  • Check whether your work experience and language results match a current category definition.
  • Keep language tests, education assessments and profile information valid and accurate.

Where this guide stops

A past cut-off cannot predict a future invitation, and only IRCC determines the official score and outcome.
