Express Entry Proof of Funds: Table and Evidence Guide

See who needs Express Entry proof of funds, the table IRCC currently publishes, exemptions, family-size rules and bank-letter requirements.

Express Entry proof of funds depends on the program under which you apply and any applicable exception, not simply whether you already live or work in Canada. On October 21, 2026, the official page still displayed a table labelled updated July 7, 2025; those figures must not be presented as a newly verified 2026 table.

Use the table as a dated reference and recheck the live official page before submitting or updating a profile. Then document family size, legal access and the evidence behind the amount you report. A balance above a threshold is only part of a complete funds assessment.

A proof-of-funds decision map

  1. Identify the program

Use the actual invitation or keep the possible program question open.

  2. Assess any exception

Match the current condition to real evidence, not an assumption.

  3. Inventory accessible funds

Separate ownership, availability, debt, currency and duplicate transfers.

  4. Reconcile the final package

Check the current table, bank letters, family size and submitted answers.

This original planning diagram separates questions. It is not an eligibility result or a prediction.

Who needs the funds assessment and who may be exempt?

IRCC identifies proof of funds for the Federal Skilled Worker and Federal Skilled Trades programs. It exempts Canadian Experience Class applicants and specifies an exception for someone authorized to work in Canada with a valid job offer, including under FSW or FST. Verify both parts of that second exception; employment alone should not be substituted for the defined requirement.

The system may request a funds document even where an exception applies. IRCC says to upload an explanatory letter identifying the relevant CEC invitation or job-offer and work-authorization basis. An empty upload slot or a statement that everyone knows you work here is not a useful explanation.

Before preparing bank evidence, identify the program in the invitation. If you are still in the pool, do not assume you know which eligible program will eventually be used. Record the question for review and keep the profile accurate.

What does the currently published table actually show?

Family members Minimum CAD
1 15,263
2 19,001
3 23,360

Read the official source summary and current link before using these dated figures.

The dated official table is reproduced below as a reference checked October 21, 2026. Its own update label remains July 7, 2025. Do not use a blog's year in the title as evidence that IRCC has issued a later table.

Record both the source-table date and the day you checked it in your planning sheet. When you recheck, compare the whole table and the instructions, not just your present family-size row. A changed family composition can matter even if the threshold itself has not changed.

If a newer official table appears before you file, use the applicable current instruction and reassess the amount and evidence. This draft does not predict that update's timing or value. Keep an older calculation clearly marked as historical so it is not accidentally attached as the final assessment.

How should you establish the family count?

IRCC's calculation includes you, your spouse or common-law partner and both partners' dependent children, including specified family members who are not accompanying or are citizens or permanent residents. Use the official definition of a dependant rather than counting only people buying plane tickets.

Create a family inventory with each person's name, relationship and the basis for including them. Keep relationship or custody questions separate from the arithmetic so an uncertain classification remains visible. A child living with another parent should not disappear from the planning record merely because travel is not intended.

Review the inventory again if a birth, relationship or other relevant change occurs. Ask how the actual change affects the application and funds requirement, and use the proper update process. A financial worksheet should follow the truthful family record, rather than selecting a family number that fits the money available.

Which money can you actually rely on?

IRCC requires legally accessible funds available at application and when it issues the permanent resident visa if approved. It excludes borrowed settlement money and real-property equity; access to a spouse's account needs to be established where relied on. The skilled-worker regulation also addresses transferable and available funds.

Build an asset inventory before adding amounts. For each account or investment, name the owner, currency, withdrawal conditions, debts or encumbrances and the evidence supporting access. An impressive total can conceal money that cannot be used for settlement at the relevant time.

Do not count the same balance twice because it appears on two statements or moved between accounts. Use a transfer trail to explain where the funds came from and where they sit now. If a financial product's access terms are unclear, obtain its actual terms rather than assuming cash-like availability from the account's label.

What should the bank evidence contain?

IRCC's list calls for official financial-institution letters identifying the applicant, institution contact details, outstanding debts and relevant account details. Those include account numbers, opening dates, current balances and average balances for the previous six months. Use the current list when requesting the letter; an account screenshot alone is not the listed letter.

Send the bank a clear request for those fields and ask which office can issue it. Check the result against the list before leaving it in the application folder. If the bank omits a field or uses a different format, record the gap and obtain advice about truthful supporting evidence and explanation.

Avoid altering a bank document to make it resemble a preferred template. A reviewer needs the authentic document and an explanation of what is missing. Keep the request and the bank's response so the evidence process can be described accurately if needed.

How do you explain transfers, joint accounts and currency?

Use a transaction chronology when funds have moved. Identify the source account, destination, dates and supporting records. Explain a transaction using real evidence rather than describing every recent deposit as savings. A large deposit is a question to document, not a fact to conceal or an automatic refusal conclusion.

For joint or spouse-held funds, ask what demonstrates the applicant's access and the ownership arrangement. Keep that question separate from the combined household balance. The relevant issue is not merely whether the family can see a number on a statement.

Where money is held in another currency, record the currency, valuation date and conversion method used in your worksheet. Recheck the applicable official instructions and allow for changing balances rather than inventing a guaranteed exchange rate. This guide does not prescribe an IRCC exchange-rate formula that was not established in the sources.

How does an exemption claim differ from a bank calculation?

For an exception based on a valid job offer and work authorization, collect the actual offer and authorization records and assess them under IRCC's defined rules. A pay stub can help describe work but does not by itself establish every required feature of a valid offer. Do not confuse an employer's promise with a completed immigration analysis.

Put the exemption reasoning on its own page: program, condition, evidence and unresolved issue. If the evidence does not establish a condition, do not replace the funds assessment with an unsupported exemption letter. Get advice about which requirement actually applies.

A CEC invitation should also be identified from the actual message. If the account or invitation is unclear, retrieve it before signing an explanation. The best explanation describes the real file, rather than a generic exception copied from another person's application.

What should change between the profile and the PR submission?

A profile and a full PR application are different stages. At application, use the personalized checklist and the actual documents needed to substantiate your answers. The amount previously entered in a profile should be reconciled with the final evidence, not treated as permanently correct because it was entered once.

Make a dated comparison of the old amount, current amount and the reasons for any difference. Check family composition and access restrictions alongside the arithmetic. If an answer changes, assess the effect and follow the official update instructions rather than silently ignoring the mismatch.

Prepare translations and other documentary requirements under IRCC's current application instructions. Review the readable uploaded version, including every page, after assembling it. A complete source document is of little help if the final upload cuts off the name, date or account information needed to understand it.

How do you maintain a useful record after filing?

Keep the submitted funds package, current account records and correspondence in a secure folder. Track meaningful changes to the money or family circumstances and ask how they affect the ongoing requirement. Avoid spending funds on the assumption that their only purpose was to appear in a submission-day screenshot.

If IRCC requests updated evidence, respond to the actual questions and date range in that request. Preserve the earlier package so the later evidence can be reconciled with it. A coherent explanation of a change is more useful than a new balance with no context.

Where the issue involves ownership, borrowing, unusual transfers or legal restrictions, bring the underlying documents to individualized advice. The goal is an accurate assessment of available funds, not the creation of a paper balance that lacks real access.

Your funds-document review worksheet

This is an original blank worksheet, not a client account or a government checklist. Add truthful facts and mark unresolved points for advice.

Question Record to bring What still needs an answer
Family count Each person and reason included under the current definition Does non-accompanying status change your assumption?
Account evidence Authentic institution letter and required fields Which fields need a truthful supplement or explanation?
Access and ownership Owner, joint access, withdrawal terms and debts Is the money legally accessible for settlement?
Transactions Source and destination statements for material transfers Has money been counted twice or a deposit left unexplained?
Final amount Table date, balance date, currency and calculation Does the final application reconcile with the profile and current facts?

Test the evidence rather than only the total

Imagine your worksheet adds two accounts and exceeds the published threshold. Before calling it complete, ask whether a transfer appears in both balances, whether one account belongs only to another person and whether part of the amount is borrowed. These are hypothetical checks, not a description of a client file.

Remove unsupported amounts from the working calculation and identify the evidence needed to resolve each question. Then check whether a genuine exception applies instead of assuming one because the arithmetic is inconvenient. Bring the worksheet, authentic statements and the actual invitation to a review; do not bring only a final total without its source records.

Questions about express entry proof of funds

Is the table in this draft a new 2026 increase?

No. The official page checked October 21, 2026 still labels its displayed table July 7, 2025. Recheck the live source before filing.

Does every person working in Canada have a funds exemption?

No. Use the actual program and the specific current exception. The job-offer exception includes both valid-offer and work-authorization conditions.

Can I count property equity or borrowed money?

IRCC says property equity and borrowed settlement money cannot be used. Assess the accessible funds and supporting documents under the current rules.

General information only. Requirements can change and no outcome is guaranteed. IRCC, ESDC, the IRB, provincial authorities or the courts make decisions within their responsibilities.
