OINP in 2026 requires a fresh stream check: Ontario’s current overview says Workforce Priority has launched and the other streams are closed. Its June 26 update records regulatory changes effective June 25, 2026, and its August 4 update records the new EOI portal opening; do not reuse an old-stream plan without checking the actual stage of the file. Use the verified timeline rather than the old brief
The current regulation’s consolidation begins June 25, 2026, and Ontario’s update uses that date for the redesign amendments. July 20 brought updated stream webpages and August 4 opened expressions of interest. A description that says every stream was revoked on May 30 is not the timeline established by these official records. Official source summary Official source summary
Keep a dated copy of any invitation or submitted application before deciding what the redesign means for you. The transition depends on the record you actually hold. A portal account, EOI, invitation and completed application should never be treated as the same document.
Find out what happened to your former EOI
Ontario’s June update distinguishes EOIs and job offers that had not produced an invitation from applications submitted after an invitation under a former stream. It says the former uninvited records would be withdrawn, while the submitted applications continue against requirements in effect at submission. That is different from saying every old file was cancelled. Official source summary
Create a short timeline with the former stream, EOI number, invitation if any, application receipt and later messages. If you cannot locate a receipt, leave that stage unresolved. Ask the reviewer to identify the transition that fits those records before preparing a new registration.
Keep the Ontario job-offer stages separate
- Employer submits the job offer
Obtain the actual job-offer ID and submission date before preparing the EOI. - Worker registers an EOI
Current guidance gives 30 calendar days after the employer job-offer submission. - If invited, two applications follow
Employer: 14 calendar days from invitation. Applicant: 17 days, after employer submission. - Ontario assesses nomination
Worker, employer and job offer must satisfy the applicable conditions. - Federal PR follows the applicable route
Record whether the nomination is Express Entry or non-Express Entry; nomination alone is not PR.
This describes the current with-job-offer process. Self-employed physicians have separate instructions; the diagram does not determine eligibility.
Match the worker to the correct pathway
The current stream separates TEER 0–3, TEER 4–5 and eligible self-employed physicians. Work experience, education and language conditions are not identical across those pathways, and there are occupation-specific provisions. A general NOC or TEER label is only the start of the assessment. Official source summary
Prepare your actual duties, dates and work location beside the proposed NOC. Add the relevant credential, language test and licensing documents. If the job changed during employment, identify the change instead of presenting the entire period as if one description applied throughout.
Keep the employer’s assessment separate
The employer guide requires its own examination of the business and position. Revenue, employees and location are part of that assessment, alongside other conditions. A worker who appears to satisfy personal criteria still needs the employer and job-offer side addressed where that pathway requires it. Official source summary
Agree who will collect each employer document and when it can be reviewed. Use a private checklist that separates information supplied by payroll, accounting and the hiring manager. Avoid telling the worker to complete employer declarations from assumptions about the company’s operations.
Location can change the employer calculation
The current employer guide distinguishes GTA, specified other census divisions and remaining locations for revenue, and distinguishes GTA and non-GTA employee requirements. Its lower revenue provision also has its own fiscal-year wording. Do not substitute a generic “rural employer” label for the actual location category and period. Official source summary
Record where the employee works and, for a mobile role, where they report. Attach the business-premises information used for the assessment. If the business operates at several locations, ask which location and workers the rule permits you to count before entering totals in the application.
Coordinate the two applications after an invitation
The current with-job-offer instructions give the employer 14 calendar days from invitation and the applicant 17 days. The applicant cannot submit before the employer’s position-approval application has been submitted. These are separate responsibilities even when one representative assists both parties. Official source summary
Use the actual invitation date to prepare a shared action list, then confirm each submission with its receipt. Do not assume an employer’s job-offer entry is the later application for approval of the employment position. The similar labels can conceal a missing stage if the records are not named carefully.
An EOI score does not establish eligibility
Treat scoring as a separate worksheet after identifying the pathway and its conditions. Retain the evidence for each claimed factor and explain anything uncertain. An attractive score cannot repair an unsupported work period, missing licence or employer condition that has not been satisfied.
Ontario’s October 7 update says a scoring change effective October 5 awards 10 EOI points under the Canadian-work-experience earnings-history factor to registrants with $80,000 or more in one year within the previous five years, as verified by a CRA Notice of Assessment. Ontario says the change was applied automatically to existing EOIs. Recheck the current scoring page before estimating a result, and record the date of the calculation. Official source summary
Ontario announced a new REDI round on October 14, running through the end of 2027 in six communities: Greater Sudbury/Grand Sudbury, Kenora District, Nipissing District, Rainy River District, Renfrew County and Thunder Bay. REDI operates within OINP and has no separate application; candidates still need to meet applicable OINP eligibility requirements. Do not confuse this round with older REDI invitations under the former Employer Job Offer streams, which closed during the redesign. Official source summary
Self-employed physicians have distinct instructions
Ontario allows qualifying self-employed physicians to follow a separate route within this stream. Its general exclusion for self-employed professionals and contractual service arrangements without a legal employer–employee relationship retains that physician exception. Do not extend the exception to business owners generally. Official source summary
For a physician assessment, assemble the professional registration and relevant publicly funded service information identified in the current guidance. For another occupation, do not try to substitute physician documents or assumptions. The right question is which pathway actually applies to that person’s work and status.
Understand the Express Entry connection before claiming points
IRCC distinguishes Express Entry and non-Express Entry provincial nomination. The 600 additional CRS points belong to the relevant Express Entry nomination process; they do not arise merely from registering an EOI or receiving a provincial invitation to apply. Federal PR remains a separate assessment. Official source summary
Keep the nomination letter and any Express Entry instructions together. Record the federal profile and application stages separately from Ontario’s file numbers. This prevents a provincial milestone from being described to an employer or family as if permanent residence had already been granted.
Do not treat proposed future pathways as open streams
Ontario’s redesign announcements explain a staged change. A reference to future work or consultation is not an application instruction for an entrepreneur, graduate or exceptional-talent route. Obtain the current stream page, eligibility criteria and intake instructions before building a plan around a new label.
If a proposed route is not established in the available instructions, write that gap into the plan. Keep the present status and work arrangements under separate review. Waiting for a possible program is a choice that needs a practical fallback, not a reason to ignore an expiring document.
Graduates need a separate federal status plan
A former student-stream EOI does not answer what a graduate may do when a current permit ends. Keep the study and PGWP documents beside the provincial chronology, with their dates visible. Ask which work and status questions need action independently of a future nomination.
Use the PGWP program overview for its own requirements and the Express Entry overview for federal selection. Avoid mixing eligibility requirements or assuming one application grants permission associated with another.
Keep nomination conditions visible after approval
The current stream guidance explains that nomination can carry conditions and post-nomination follow-up. Preserve the actual approval letter and ask what changes must be reported. A later job or business change should be assessed against those conditions rather than treated as irrelevant because the provincial decision has arrived. Official source summary
Prepare a record of any change in employment position, employer or location and the related correspondence. Keep the federal application history with it. The purpose is to maintain an accurate file through the next stage, not to assume that a nomination remains usable regardless of what changes.
Bring both sides of the file to the review
Bring the worker chronology, job offer, employer records, EOI or invitation, submitted applications and all Ontario correspondence. Add the language, education and licensing documents used for the proposed pathway. Ontario decides nomination and IRCC decides federal permanent residence; this guide cannot determine either outcome.
The skilled-worker service page and Ontario LMIA guide address related but different questions. Identify whether the immediate task is nomination, a work permit or employment planning before asking which documents to prepare.
Questions about OINP 2026
Were all old Ontario files cancelled?
No such blanket conclusion follows. Ontario distinguishes uninvited EOIs from applications submitted following former-stream invitations. Read the actual correspondence.
Can I submit before the employer application?
Current with-job-offer guidance says the applicant submits after the employer’s position-approval application, within the applicant’s own stated deadline.
Does any Ontario nomination add 600 CRS points?
The additional points concern the relevant Express Entry nomination process. An EOI or invitation is not that nomination.
Can any self-employed professional use the physician exception?
No. The exception is specific to qualifying self-employed physicians. Other working arrangements need their own pathway assessment.
General information only. Requirements can change, and no outcome is guaranteed.
